Burgers at Small Cheval

Small Cheval

I visited on a rainy, cold day. A perfect day for a burger. But then again, what day isn't.

The woman at the counter (I wish I remember her name) was super kind and gave me some good recommendations. She made it a point that I take note of the different condiments available for the fries, especially the garlic mayo.

I appreciate that there are only a few options on the menu. It helps the restaurant focus on quality control. I got the cheeseburger with bacon and a drink.

What can I say about it? It's a good, tasty, salty, juicy burger. It wasn't lacking anything. But then again, it didn't blow me away, either. These days I'm more surprised when I eat a bad burger than good. In that respect, the lack of surprise was a good thing.

The fries were similarly unremarkable. I prefer my fries extra crispy (which I believe takes an extra step of preparation in double frying), but these were a bit limp.

When you factor in the great, friendly service, and solid burger, Small Cheval is definitely worth a visit. The ample selection of beers doesn't hurt, either. Sadly, since I was driving, that was not an option.

I still need to make a trip to Au Cheval, though my expectations will be somewhat tempered.

No photographs since I was with my in-laws. It gets extra weird if I shoot video AND take photos. The video can be found here.
